XIII XIII diverts from Spalding’s past vignette style to present one unified movement Mandala. Incorporating themes from the twelve existing Mandalas, XIII is a fresh look at Spalding’s unparalleled skill of creating movement choirs and coiled vortexes that breathe into a myriad of complex crossings and couplings. Unexpected spirals and bright changing footwork color the emerging Mandala as Evren Celimli’s original musical composition further lulls the viewer into a peaceful reverie. Choreographer Murray Spalding has been creating her contemplative Mandalas since 1997. Partnering with her to create this unforgettable new work are longtime collaborators and former MANDALAS dancers, Director Leslie Roybal and Contributing Director Amy Filbin, MANDALAS Composer Evren Celimli and Lighting Designer Kathy Kauffmann. The Production Manager is former MANDALAS dancer, Melissa Riker. XIII’s costumes will be designed and constructed by Naomi Luppescu and seven dancers perform the work: Erica Abbott, Shinyun Chou, Lauren Engleman, Kely Narcum, Carmela Torchia, Tatiana Virzi-Roy and Amia Zoecklein. |
